International LLC Formation
Does Owning a US LLC Give You a Visa or Work Permission?
Does owning a US LLC give you a visa? No. A state company filing is not a visa, admission to the United States or permission to work there. Business ownership and immigration authorization are separate questions. If moving to the US is part of your plan, evaluate the immigration route before treating formation as the solution.

A company can be relevant evidence within an appropriate application, but the certificate alone does not establish eligibility. The activities you intend to perform, your circumstances and the applicable immigration category need separate review.
Does owning a US LLC give you a visa automatically?
The State Department distinguishes temporary business visits from employment and permanent residence. Its visitor guidance lists activities such as consulting business associates, attending conferences and negotiating contracts, while excluding employment from visitor-visa purposes. State Department visitor-visa guidance.
This is why “I own the company” is not a complete explanation of what you may do during a US trip. The actual activities matter.
Company ownership
This concerns the legal interest in the business and the records documenting it. Our non-resident LLC guide addresses formation and ongoing company responsibilities.
Permission to enter and work
These concern the individual and the purpose and conditions of the stay. Do not assume that registering as a manager, opening a bank account or obtaining an EIN answers them.
Describe the trip in practical terms
Before seeking immigration advice, write a specific activity list. “Business trip” is too broad to evaluate well.
| Planned activity | Detail to give the adviser |
|---|---|
| Meetings | Who you will meet and the purpose |
| Negotiations | Which contracts are being discussed |
| Operational work | What tasks you personally expect to perform |
| Management | Whether you will direct ongoing local operations |
| Duration | Planned dates, repeat visits and any relocation plans |
This table is a preparation tool, not a determination that a particular activity is permitted. An adviser needs the full facts and your existing immigration history.
Do not confuse remote ownership with work during a visit
An owner may manage aspects of a US company while physically outside the United States. That does not establish what the same person may do after entering the US. A change in physical location can change the legal analysis even when the business and laptop stay the same.
For example, a founder who plans to attend supplier meetings and a founder who plans to spend months performing customer work at a US office have different activity descriptions. Both may own LLCs. Their ownership certificates do not resolve the difference.
Keep the formation and immigration budgets separate
Company costs
Budget for formation, registered-agent arrangements, renewals and professional support. Use our US LLC cost guide to avoid counting only the state filing.
Immigration planning
Ask a qualified immigration lawyer to evaluate possible categories, evidence, timing and limitations before making nonrefundable relocation commitments. Do not select a route solely because a formation seller uses the words “business visa.”
Tax planning
Travel and residence can also affect tax questions. Immigration permission and tax residency are not interchangeable. Give your tax adviser accurate travel dates and business activities rather than assuming your company state decides personal tax status.
Questions to ask before buying a bundled package
Ask exactly which entity filings are included, who provides immigration advice, which application is contemplated and what facts support eligibility. Request a clear separation between work the provider performs and decisions made by government authorities.
A promise that a basic LLC filing guarantees a visa should not be the foundation of a move. Our formation-provider questions can help you evaluate the scope of a service.
Plan the company without assuming a right to relocate
If your business needs a US LLC regardless of travel, contact PrimeRegister to discuss formation. Resolve US entry, residence and work authorization with an appropriately qualified immigration professional. This keeps the company plan realistic and avoids committing to activities your status may not permit.
