US Business Bank Account for Non-Residents: Setup Guide
A US business bank account for non-residents can be available through providers that accept the founder's residence, business activity and company structure. Forming an LLC and obtaining an EIN are useful steps, but they do not guarantee approval.

A US business bank account for non-residents can be available through providers that accept the founder's residence, business activity and company structure. Forming an LLC and obtaining an EIN are useful steps, but they do not guarantee approval.
The most effective preparation is a complete, consistent application supported by genuine business documents. Buying more addresses or submitting repeated applications will not fix an eligibility mismatch.
US business bank account for non-residents: check eligibility first
Before comparing account features, confirm that the provider accepts your residence country, industry, legal structure and expected activity. Check whether remote onboarding is available and whether a branch visit is required.
Mercury is one example of a provider with published international-founder criteria. Its current requirements include a US-formed company, existing or planned US operations and an acceptable principal business address. It excludes certain countries and activities. Read the current eligibility policy, rather than treating an old recommendation as an approval promise.
This example is not a ranking of providers or a claim that every PrimeRegister customer qualifies.
Build an application folder
| Evidence | What it should clarify |
|---|---|
| Accepted formation document | Legal entity name and creation |
| EIN evidence | Company's federal identification |
| Ownership information | Actual beneficial owners and control |
| Identity documents | Identity of required owners and signers |
| Operating-address evidence | Where the business genuinely operates |
| Website, contracts or invoices | What the business does |
| Funding explanation | Where initial money comes from |
The exact list depends on the provider. Ask what is accepted before paying for a certified copy, translation or certificate that might not be needed.

Explain the business in plain language
Describe what you sell, who buys it, where work is performed and how payments move. Avoid vague descriptions such as “general ecommerce” if the actual activity is more specific.
An illustrative software agency might explain its customer markets, remote team, subscription tools and expected monthly client receipts. Support that description with a real website, proposal or contract when requested. Do not fabricate sales or US operations to make the application look stronger.
If the business is pre-launch, say so and provide truthful plans. Projected activity should be clearly distinguished from existing revenue.
Use the right address for each question
A registered agent address serves a legal-notice function. It may not satisfy a provider's operating-address requirement. Mercury's published policy, for example, permits certain overseas or residential principal addresses but rejects registered agent addresses for that field.
Keep the founder's residential address, company's mailing address and operating location distinct. Differences are not inherently wrong when they accurately answer different questions.
Review business address vs registered agent address before purchasing an address service for the application.
Compare the account after eligibility
Review supported currencies, incoming and outgoing transfers, card availability, payment limits, fees and access controls. Check who actually provides the account and the applicable deposit-insurance terms, including conditions and limits, in the provider's current disclosures.
An account with low monthly fees can still be expensive for the transfers your business makes. Compare a realistic month of transactions rather than an advertising headline.
Also consider bookkeeping exports and how you will give an accountant access without sharing the owner's password.
Plan the monthly workflow in bookkeeping for foreign-owned LLCs so account statements and payment-platform records can be reconciled from the start.
If the application needs more information
Respond to the specific request with consistent documents. Correct genuine errors through the provider's process. If the business is ineligible, evaluate a provider that supports the actual facts instead of misrepresenting them.
Keep a record of the documents submitted and the application's status. Do not send identification to an unverified intermediary merely because it promises faster approval.
