Mercury for Non-US Residents: US LLC Account Checklist
Mercury for non-US residents can be an option for an eligible US business. You do not need to become a US resident simply to apply, but company formation alone does not secure an account. Your business activity, operating location, ownership and current or planned US operations all matter.

Mercury for non-US residents can be an option for an eligible US business. You do not need to become a US resident simply to apply, but company formation alone does not secure an account. Your business activity, operating location, ownership and current or planned US operations all matter.
If banking access is a major reason for forming an LLC, check the provider's requirements before paying for a formation package. It is easier to choose a workable setup at the beginning than to discover a missing requirement after customers are ready to pay.
Mercury for non-US residents: the eligibility starting point
Mercury says eligible companies must be formed in the US or a US territory, have existing or planned US operations and provide a genuine principal business address. That address may be international or residential; a registered agent, PO box or UPS Store address does not qualify as the principal operating location. Application review still applies. Mercury eligibility requirements.
Check residence and operations separately
Mercury also restricts certain countries and regions based on where founders live and where the business operates or does business. Citizenship alone is not the same question. Check the current list against every relevant location rather than relying on a country's omission from an old video. Mercury country restrictions.
Describe the US business connection honestly
Write a short explanation of what the company sells, its intended customers and why it needs the account. If operations are planned rather than established, say that. Do not turn a future customer proposal into a claim that revenue already exists.
Prepare a consistent application folder
Our LLC formation-document checklist helps organize the company records. For a banking application, organize facts by purpose:
| Folder | Questions to resolve |
|---|---|
| Company | Do the legal name and jurisdiction match the issued records? |
| Ownership | Can you explain who ultimately owns and controls the company? |
| Business activity | Does the website accurately describe the proposed transactions? |
| Locations | Are operating, registered-agent and personal addresses distinguished? |
| Funding | Can you explain where the initial business funds will come from? |
This is a preparation framework, not a promise that every document will be requested or accepted. Follow the secure application prompts for the exact evidence needed.
Avoid the registered-agent address mistake
A founder may live in France, run a business from a French home office and own a Wyoming LLC. The registered agent's Wyoming address does not replace the real office or the owner's home. These facts can coexist; they should not be made artificially identical.
Read our business-address comparison before purchasing extra address services. Ask what a service provides and whether it fits the field you are trying to complete. “US address included” is not a complete answer to an operating-location question.
Understand the product before moving money
Mercury describes itself as a financial technology company, not a bank; banking services are provided through its banking partners. Review the current product disclosures, eligibility, fees and protections for the particular account rather than assuming that every balance or feature has the same treatment. Mercury FAQs.
Map the payments you actually need
List incoming customer transfers, supplier payments, supported currencies, payment-platform payouts and any physical-cash requirements. Verify those capabilities directly. A product that suits a software company may not suit a cash-heavy business.
Keep a launch buffer
Do not promise customers a payment method until the relevant account features are available. Keep onboarding correspondence and track any remaining requests. Application submission, approval and a completed transfer are different milestones.
After approval: maintain the same clear records
Keep business and personal spending identifiable. Update material ownership or address changes through the provider's process. Reconcile transactions with invoices and receipts instead of relying only on the account balance.
For the broader banking preparation process, see our US business bank account guide. If you need the company formed first, contact PrimeRegister to discuss the formation scope. Mercury makes its own eligibility decisions; no formation package should promise otherwise.
