Ohio uses the term statutory agent for the role often called registered agent elsewhere. The terminology changes, but you still need a valid appointment and a dependable way to receive official correspondence.
Ohio foreign LLC registration: confirm the existing entity
Foreign registration is for a company formed outside Ohio. If you are creating your first LLC in Ohio, use the Ohio formation guide instead. Do not submit both domestic articles and a foreign registration for the same intended setup without a clear reason.
Review the business's Ohio activity before filing. Qualification, tax nexus and professional or local licensing are different analyses. An online customer in Ohio and a staffed Ohio office are not identical fact patterns.

Read the current application for attachments rather than ordering unnecessary certified documents from a generic checklist. The Ohio LLC guide and current form are the controlling starting points for the filing package.
Obtain agent acceptance before submitting
Ask the proposed statutory agent to confirm the exact name and address to enter and how acceptance will be completed. Do not nominate an unrelated address or provider that has not agreed to act.
The registered agent guide explains the service's purpose. It is not automatically a customer-facing office, bank-approved business location or substitute for the owner's identity information.
File, save and maintain both records
Submit through the official route offered by the Secretary of State, pay the base fee plus any chosen expedited service and save the accepted registration. Check the Ohio entity record after processing. Keep that record with the original state's formation documents.
Ohio does not impose a routine annual report on an ordinary LLC, but this does not eliminate agent maintenance, taxes or licenses. A change affecting the registered record should be handled through the appropriate form. Compare this with the annual report versus tax return guide before deleting calendar reminders indiscriminately.
If the company stops operating in Ohio while continuing elsewhere, review cancellation of the Ohio foreign registration. That is different from dissolving an Ohio domestic LLC. The Ohio LLC closure guide explains the two forms and why the company's formation jurisdiction matters when choosing the exit route.
