Maryland LLC Annual Report: Form 1 and Filing Costs
A Maryland LLC annual report is generally filed with the State Department of Assessments and Taxation, or SDAT, by April 15. The standard LLC annual-report fee is $300. A related business personal property return may also be required, depending on the business's circumstances. These are not the same as a Maryland income tax return.

The important first step is determining what applies to your company. A business with office equipment, leased property or operations in Maryland may need a different filing package from one with a different activity profile. Answer the official screening questions using actual facts.
Maryland LLC annual report: build the filing folder
| Record | What to prepare |
|---|---|
| SDAT entity information | Department ID, legal name and current status |
| Business activity | Where and how the company operated |
| Property records | Equipment, furniture, leased items and relevant location details |
| Prior-year submission | Use it as a reference, not an automatic answer key |
| Authorized filer | Someone able to confirm the information and retain proof |
Maryland Business Express can guide users through the annual report and whether a personal property return is needed. Paper filers should select the correct year's Form 1 and instructions from SDAT's forms page. Do not reuse an old blank form simply because the company details are unchanged.
Understand fees, waivers and extensions
Budget the annual-report fee separately from any tax assessed on business personal property. Paying $300 is not proof that every property-tax obligation has been settled.
Eligible businesses may receive an annual-report fee waiver through MarylandSaves, but eligibility and timing must be checked for the filing year. A fee waiver does not itself eliminate the report. SDAT also provides an annual-report extension process; request the available extension by the original deadline and retain its confirmation. Do not assume an IRS extension covers SDAT.
File and check the company record
Review the property questions with your bookkeeper before submitting. A useful approach is to reconcile the equipment list to purchase invoices and note where each item was located. If a question does not fit the business, read the instructions rather than treating every blank as zero.
Save the report, any property schedules, payment evidence and extension confirmation together. After processing, check the record for acceptance or unresolved years. Our company records guide explains how to keep the evidence accessible without placing private financial details in public materials.
Separate SDAT from tax elections
An LLC's federal tax classification does not remove the annual entity filing. If you are considering S corporation treatment, use the Maryland S corporation guide for that separate decision. A pass-through tax election and an SDAT annual report serve different purposes.
For an overdue company, investigate every missing year and any forfeiture status before assuming one payment restores compliance. The reinstatement guide provides a starting framework for that review.
An LLC also registered in New York should track the New York biennial statement separately; Maryland’s annual filing does not update the New York record.
Keep this checklist with your company records. If you are planning a new LLC alongside these decisions, contact PrimeRegister to discuss the formation paperwork and service scope.
